the spice that comes from the tropical evergreen Myristica Fragrans tree, has been known since at least the 6th century AD. The tree is native to the Moluccas Islands in Indonesia, but is now naturalized in other regions. Nutmeg has been used for its aromatic, aphrodisiac, and curative properties, and has many medicinal and culinary uses. Nutmeg is a spice commonly found in sweet and savory cooking.
Nutmeg has many health benefits, including:
· Antibacterial properties
· Improved mood
· Better sleep
· Protecting against signs of aging
· Protecting against serious conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and liver disease
Nutmeg also contains anti-inflammatory plant compounds that act as antioxidants, which may improve blood sugar control and heart health.
Caution: However, nutmeg can be harmful in large amounts. As little as 2 teaspoons or 5 grams can cause some symptoms of toxicity, and at larger amounts, symptoms can become worse and lead to serious complications or death. When consumed in large amounts, nutmeg has psychoactive effects and is reported to be a deliriant and hallucinogen.
